This Memorial Day the City of Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department and The American Legion Post No. 7 invite the public to honor and remember veterans with two services.
The first service will be held at 8:45 a.m. at Sunnyland Memorial Park, and the second will be held at 10:45 a.m. at the Veteran’s Plaza in Bayview Cemetery. Both services will include a Presentation of Colors, a keynote speech by Mark Nelson, VIP recognition, special music featuring the Bellingham Pipe Band and a 21-gun salute.
Come out and honor those who fought for our country!

…and the roads, rivers, trails and sea. Our vaunted athletes, aka the Chisels of Fury, will take on all comers in the 2010 Ski to Sea race this coming Sunday, and you know you’ve hit the big time when you make it in USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/2010-05-25-ski-to-sea_N.htm)–check out the article about Bellingham’s soon-to-be-world-famous multi-sport relay race.
This year 466 teams will complete for absolutely nothing! No prizes, just bragging rights and an excuse for a party (as if…). The race goes off at 8:00 AM, PDT (matching to the minute the start time of the Indy 500!) with cross country skiers leading off. They hand off to so-called downhill skiers. “So-called” because they begin by trudging about 1000 feet up the hill before skiing down to hand off to runners. After pounding down hill for 8 miles, the runners hand off to the road bikers who carry the chip 38.5 miles to the banks of the Nooksack River. Canoeists paddle 18 miles to hand-off to mountain bikers who race to Bellingham Bay where the kayakers will be waiting to take it all home.
The fastest teams will finish in 5 1/2 hours. The Chisels of Fury will take about 8 hours to complete the 90 mile course. But a good time will be had by all!!!
Contemporary Timber

We love timber frame homes. It’s what we do. But you may not be sold on the look of traditional timber frames, and that’s ok. As with other mediums, timber can be used to create many looks. We found this contemporary timber house on Digs Digs. Stirling by Mac Interactive is made from a hard timber called Grey Bark. It has 3 stories, high ceilings and windows that wrap around the sides and the roof presenting a 3-D form. This contemporary house also uses timber throughout for cabinetry and flooring among other features as traditional timber houses do. All the timber products used came from certified and sustainable yield forests, which we couldn’t agree more with. What do you think about this style of a timber frame house?
